Hi everyone, yesterday, one of my leopard Danios, was looking very poor.Floating on his side, laying on the bottom of the tank. This morning,he was lying vertical in a plant,I thought he'd gone.I got my net,to retrieve him,but to my amazement,he swam off. He was listing badly, all over the place.I am going to test the water now, though, in my panic yesterday,I did a 50% water change. Is there any hope for him, should I put him out of his misery? Thanks

You will need to provide more information. Has this tank ben cycled? How long has it been set up?

You need to provide reading for ammonia and nitrite. Hopefully then someone will be able to help.

Ok, the tank is fairly new, about, 10 weeks (gosh, seems longer ) The tank is cycled, the Danio in question, has been there from the start.Although i did NOT do a fishless cycle, I used Tetra safestart, and I have never had bad water readings, except yesterday, the Nitrate was 50, hence the water change.Today my reading are

Ph 7
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 5
I have not added any fish recently,some rasboras,about a month ago.The sick danio,looks physically ok,no sign of disease,but his coordination is gone.My 55 litre tank has 3 Danios,2 guppies and 5 Rasboras.

Well your ammonia and nitrite are fine as is the nitrate. Keep the readings down with water changes as necessary. The nitrate reading of 40 is nothing to be concerned about either.

I´m not sure what is wrong with the danio though it sounds like it may be a swim bladder problem.

Why don´t you make a post in the emergency forum where some very knowlegable people reside and you are sure to get a quick reply.

Good luck
