hiya im new to the forum and fairly new (6 weeks) to tropical fish

im hoping someone can shed some light on a problem we have with out fish, over the last few days they have been dying one by one, they seem to just sit at the top of the water and have rather bloated bellys then the next thing they are dead

we have had our water tested and they said it was perfect

we have a 200 litre tank with about 12 guppys (to be honest im not sure what they all are as they came with the tank) i was told they were guppys thou lol
we have 4 very small cat fish type fish
2 silver sharks
and a fighter fish

i will try to add the pics i have taken of the sick fish sorry they are a bit rubbish

Howdee & Welcome :)

how long has the tank been set up for?
how often do you do water changes and gravel cleans?
is the filter running all the time and when did you last clean it? Also how did you clean it?
when the shop tested the water did they give you the results?

guppies are prone to bacterial infections, which cause the fish to bloat up (get fat) overnight and die within a day or so after that. Internal anti-bacterial medications sometimes work but not always.

hi and thanks for you help

we have had the tank set up for 6 weeks.
we done the first water change at 4 weeks in, so 2 weeks ago was the last one
have not done a gravel clean as yet
the filter is a fluval 205 and is always on, as is the air bubbles, cleaned the filter when we done the water change and used the tank water to clean it with.
they did not give me the results they just said it was a perfect reading

do you think it will pass onto the other fish ?

try doing a partial water change and gravel clean each day for a week and see if that helps. This will dilute any diseases in the water and reduce the risk to the other fishes.
Make sure any new water going into the tank is free of chlorine/ chloramine and has a similar temperature & PH to the tank water.

often the guppies will die but the other fish will be fine. But that doesn't always happen. If the water changes don't help then treat the tank with a broad-spectrum medication like "Waterlife Protozin or Myxazin" or "Wardleys Promethyasul" or Triple Sulpha.

Hey, sorry about your fish :(

But you sure you ain't over feeding them...? Guppies NEVER stop eating and can become bloated very quickly. How much do you feed them?
