Sick Fish Dead

My cichlid fish is now dead
don't know the reason why i tried saving it by putting the fish into a bucket and add this special tonic chemical which is designed to treat it and later fish died
and i think the fish was about 4years old im sure they live longer. The fish was upside down at the bottom of gravel with mouth open wide
does anyone know what cause this?
