I will repost with my water stats in a bit but wanted to post first.
I have a 29 gal tank
I put in new platies Sat (and all seem well)
I do not have a hospital tank...
I have two dwarf gourami's(one that is sick)
loaches 2
guppies 3
platties 3
angels 3
rainbow shark 1

I have had the gourami's since Oct of last year... they battled a bit( no injuries) and in the past month or so the one that is sick has been hidding and not coming out but to eat( and that has decreased the past few days) I have acctually been looking to re home one because I felt this poor guy was too streesed with the other dwarf... I hadn't seen him in two days so really checked hard and he was of course hidding. he has black spots on his body near his fins and traveling down to his lower fins. It seems to be traveling front to back and is about 3/4 down the top of him.
Again all of the other fish seem fine. Of course I can't re home him now because he isn't well. I would hate to re home the other one if this one isn't giong to make it but would if you all said it would help...
Can i keep him in the tank? Will he get better? should I add salt(what about the loaches?) any advice is greatly appreciated...
My guess is fin rot but again it seems to have started on the body and making it's way to the fins... don't know if this can happen.

I looked at the disease page( great resource thanks!) and I would say it is more like black patches or fungus... that was after a quick look. I also have a guppy that looks like it may have the same thing( have had her for about a month) I can't tell if it is her coloring or the same thing... I have a zebra loach and kuhlli loach.
Should I try salt? Should I take the fish to a LFS to see what they think-- I have one small one that seem to be pretty good but don't know if that will just stress the fish more... I will get the stats for you.
Thanks sooo much for your help!

OK here are my stats...
Ph 7.2 -7.6 color somewhere in between
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0-5 somewhere in between closer to 5 tho
Ammonia 0
So I know it isn't ammonia burn...
Also I didn't even think of this before until I was reading online but the guppy I said may have it too has split tail... noticed it a few days ago, I just assumed that thier tails are so long it is bound to happen at times but maybe it is relavent?
Also i have two dwarf frogs in the tank
Should I add salt tonight?
I am worried about leaving the gourami in the tank overnight and if it dies( still not eating or swimming) the other fish eating it...
Please help any advice is very much appreciated!! I'll keep researching too

Black patches can be ammonia burns that are healing.
Has the tank been cycling.
Find you some info.

My tank has been cycled for months now. The last time I showed any #'s for amm or nitrite was November... testing since then and they have remained 0... I am using a liquid tester not strips so I trust it.
i have this posted on another forum too and they see to think maybe the stress plus the nitrates could be causing it. they suggested a diff. tank(which I will set up tonight) and a stress coat additive.
What do you think---

Don't think it nitrates as they are not high.
What type of loaches are they as clown loaches need large tanks.
Have you looked at that link I left.

Yes I did look at it I understood it to basically say it would be from nitrites or ammonia and I haven't had a problem with either of those...
They are zebra and kuhlli loaches
I am at a loss... guess I will set up a seperate tank and hope it is due to stress.... Do you have any other ideas?
Thank you so much for looking around for me about this!!

I would try salt but not on the loaches.
Stress won't be helping no, it can make us ill.
