Sick Cory

Just a quick look at their site shows that kanamycin & gentamycin are a couple of the more often used drugs. Gentamycin is adsorbed through the gills, being one of the few that do not require daily water changes. It is also one of the more powerful antibiotics used.

I have no way of getting those without mail order which takes too long. I needed to medicate now... I am ordering some meds though to have for next time or if this or something else I have don't work... I just needed to get started with something now... before it gets worse. I really hope I am doing the right thing...

I am setting up a tank to get the healthy ones out. I hope that will help some...

I am really sick from the trip to the pet shop. Once I get this done I will have to give up for the day. I am very allergic to birds... which they have right in front... and they are slow! I had to be in there too long. Now I am suffering badly for it.

I will check out two you said and do some more reading later. Now I need to take some meds for me.

Thanks for helping.
I will check back later.

They are shut down on the weekend, I'm sure their mail box is full, I've encountered that during the week. During the week it usually means they are on the line with someone else. They respond to e-mails pretty quickly, that is another route to take.

Their price for shipping next day isn't bad compared to shipping fish, and the meds do have a few years before they expire. Sorry to hear the birds got to you, my family is the same way with cats or sheddy dogs.

Ok... so if I order and do the over night thing... which one is the very best for pop eye?

I went to take the so far healthy fish out... I found 2 loaches and 1 cory still showing no signs... They came out. What I was left with was 2 with one eye sticking out and cloudy, and 2 with the beginning signs around the edges of one eye. So now I am down to 4 corys in the 10g qt tank.

The water stats were getting worse so I did a 40% water change to get that down some. I am going to do another one in the morning and add a sponge from one of my other filters to see if that will help. I think the meds killed the bacteria in this one... I always keep an extra sponge or two running for things like this...

Maybe if I can get the water good then the fish will begin to get better. I know the bad water will make it worse, so maybe good water will make it better. I have wanted these corys for a long time, and now that I have them I do not intend to let them die.

I remember treating a molly with the fixes (mela & pima) and a lot of water changes and it got better. I wish it were that easy now.
I hope this starts to get better soon. It looks very painful...

Is jungle anti-bacterial fish food any good? I have some of that, but it won't sink even if you soak it.

thanks for helping...

Which med is best would be a call best left up to them. They are very much in tune as to what is going on & going around in the aquatics community, any resistances to meds that are common, and what works best in a given situation.

Water changes to maintain water quality are the best thing to do for now, good planning with the spare cycled sponges. Those are cheap easy insurance, I wish more aquarists would catch on to that.

I've healed some pretty torn up angels that ended up being in the wrong place at the wrong time during pairing. Large water changes & a little melafix healed these fish up, some with eye damage. It is worth working with fish that need a little help, I have one large black male that got so torn up a couple of years ago. It took a while, he healed, paired with another black, and the produce spawns continually.

The medicated Jungle food is a good product, I've never used it but heard plenty of good things about it. You might want to try holding a pinch underwater for a minute, let it get waterlogged it may sink.

More bad news... I have lost 2 of them and I believe I am about to lose one more...
We had a bad storm and the power was out... I tried to keep some oxygen going manually every little while, but it just wasn't enough... Out of the 4 I have one looking much better, one looking rough and 2 dead.
Sick fish do not like being without air!!!!
My battery powered pump would not work... It worked last time I had it out, but this time I got nothing.
I am beginning to think I was just not meant to have these fish...

Thanks for looking and helping

R.I.P.
Have you put new batteries in the powered pump.

I am so sorry you are having such trouble. Whenever I try to do too much when I am already overloaded, I end up losing a lot. I'm afraid you are just way overloaded. So do the bet you can and know most of us have been there at one time or another.

I hope it is over soon.
