Well in the past two weeks or so I have lost an Angel fish and Cory catfish and a Guppy. Two days ago I noticed my other cory on his side and figured he would die too. At night I turn the filter down to feed and keep it low through the night. So when I came down to turn it up the next morning the cory was right side up again. Later that day the fish was over on his side in the corner and i was sure he was dead but I did not have time to take him out that minute. So when I came down to feed he had not been eaten and I found that odd but I went to scoop him out with the net and he started trying to swim again. I gently moved him from the corner to the center of the tank but he just layed there. I fed the fish and turned down the filter. The next morning he was once again right side up and had moved himself to a new location so I decided to keep the filter down through the day and he seems to have moved himself (although I have not actually seen him move) and he is not yet dead. I am wondering if there is anything i can do to heal him. Also do you think this is contagious? Should he be moved to another tank? i have a ten gallon but it has 3 guppies and another cory (of a different species) in it. I really do not want my other cory to die though (he is my longest living fish) so i am apprehensive to put the sick one in with him. Can the sick fish go in qa tank that has no filter? If so then i do have a place he can go. Or do you think there is nothing I can do and he will die? Thanks for any input!

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
Full stock list.
Water stats in ammonia,nitrite,nitrate,and ph.
Corys are prone to the bacterial side and a sign of a bacterial infection is laying to oneside.
Has he gone pale or darkened in colour, check the barbels to see if they have gone short and thin.

OK well I know it's big mistake but we have not tested the water in a while which may very well be the problem but I will get there as soon as possible. the tank is 55 gallons. I am VERY new to the aquarium and so some of the fish may not be very compatible but this is what i have one angel fish, one Chinese algae eater, 3 bleeding heart tetras, 7 female guppies, and the two corys (had three until the other one died) and one Bala shark. I know I should probably get rid of the algae eater and the bala shark but I can't find anyone to take them and I have had them for a year without any big problems. I'll try to get my dad to take me to the store to get a test kit as soon as possible.

and he does not seem to have changed color at all. Are barbels like the whiskers around his mouth? (like I said very new to fish, sorry) if so then yes they do seem shorter.

Chinese algae eaters very aggressive.
Bala shark shoaling fish no less then a group of three.
Yes get water tested tell the lfs to write the readings down for you.
I would invest in a liquid master kit.
Do you have a bacterial med.

ok, but is my tank too small for more balas? I'll try to rehome the algae eater but no one wants him (since they have other fish and algae eaters are aggressive). Do you think a store will take him? I do not have a bacterial med. but will get that by tomorrow. Do you think I have enough time to wait for tomorrow? Also will the med harm the non infected fish or this fish if he does not actually have this?

You lost some fish so I would add a bacterial med.
To be honest once there on there sides not good news.
Can you say what the symtoms were of the dead fish.

as far as symptoms go the only fish I actually saw symptoms from was the angel. He got a patch of very light colored scales by the back of his head (where the top fin meets the body, but not on the fin it was on the body) he stopped eating the same day i saw this and was dead by morning. The only thing I noticed with the other two was they were skinnier than the others but they were eating. They died very fast i never noticed them act funny, just woke up and they were dead.

So the fish went thin when still eating.
Internal parasites to fish tb.
Any bent spines.
Whats it look like when the fish go to the toilet, is the anus of the fish red and inflamed or enlarged.

I have not seen anything unusual when they go to the bathroom but I will check when I see him go. No I do not see any bent spines. the angel did not go thin but the other two did and the cory dieing now did not go thin. do you think this could have anything to do with a live plant i put in. There are teo plant (of the same species) and one has started dieing, I got it about a month ago from the pet store.

If fish are going thin something is seriously wrong.
It point to fish tb, flukes, internal parasites.
Old age but i doubt that.
Check when the fish go to the toilet.

thanks for your help I'll come back once I see them go. Should i just be looking at the sick fish when he goes to the bathroom or all of them? Also should i still get the bacteria med? Is there anything else I should be watching for?

I think it internal parasites as angels are prone to them.
Internal parasites do alot of damage to the insides of the fish causing bacterial infections on top.

sorry but I forgot to mention that I did notice something else before the first cory died. His fins were kinda torn/frayed. I don't know if that means anything or if other fish just may have been picking on him.

ok.
Whats your location.
