A few weeks ago I noticed that my Male betta was acting strange. He would just lay at the top of his bowl until I came up to him then he'd spring back to life as if to say "I'm okay" he wasn't eating and he was swelling in his midsection.
A week later he was worse and his midsection had swelled so he looked like a pinecone from above. He also had some stuff that looked like fungus trailing from around his anus. So I changed his water and added some aquarium salt. He still wasn't eating.
Just when I thought he was a gonner, with the salt treatment and more frequent water changes, his body shrunk back to normal and the fungus dissapeared.
Now he is more active, he's even gotten back to flaring at me when I walk up to his bowl. But he still isn't eating and he's still looks slightly lethargic (he'll swim and then stop and float so that he's pointing downward, then continue on).
My questions: Is there anything more I can do? What's wrong with him? Do you think He'll continue getting better without eating?(he's getting thin now)
Thanks for any help you can offer
edit: He lives in a small bowl (just under a USgallon), I change his water once a week, there are little jems at the bottom of the bowl and I use declorinator on the water.
