My betta is 2 and a half years old and isn't doing so well anymore. He is laying on the bottom of his tank, very lethargic, and his breathing looks very labored. He will not eat, and does not even attempt to eat anymore. (He used to take several snaps at his food before he actually put it in his mouth, and then sometimes he would spit it back out.) This morning, he very rapidly swam to the top and around the top, but as soon as he stopped he floated back down to the bottom and layed on the rocks. He is very pale, and I really want to help him out if I can. I changed his water completely two days ago like I normally would. I don't have any of those five in one test strips, so I can't provide any information about his water. I feel like it might be the end of his time, but I just want to make sure if there is anything wrong, I can help him. I know it isn't fun for him. Thank you for any help you can give!

Here is a video of him.

It's important to get him eating if you can. What do you feed him now? I suggest trying something that is hard for him to resist like fresh blood worms to encourage feeding to get his strength up.

Are there any other symptoms you notice like spots, fin damage etc.?

Thanks! I feed him a floating pellet made for betta fish. He is an extremely picky eater. And there is no other physical symptoms except he is extremely pale.

I would preform a water change and treat the fish with an internal bacteria medications.
He lookls in a bad way and it might be to late, but still worth a try.
Pale, sinking back down to the bottom of the tank can be symptoms of a bacterial infection.
Also take a sample of your tank water to the LFS for testing. Ask if they wouldn't mind
writing the results down for you.

Good Luck.
