So my betta is still really swollen but other than that is fine. Could it be something else other than dropsy. Most information I have read about dropsy and bettas says it will kill them between 5-15 days. He has been like this for over 5 weeks.

here is a pic of what he has looked like for about the last four weeks

not much help to you but i saw two bettas at my local maidenhead like that today...not healthy looking :(

Is his scales pineconing? Is he still eating? What are you feeding him and how much? Does he float at the top of the tank?

no, yes, yes and hard to say because my other fish eat too but not alot, no

I would isolate him into another tank with a heater and a filter, make the water about 5-6 inches deep max - so it won't take much of his energy to go up to the surface. Give only a little bit of food, and monitor what goes in and what goes out (don't put gravel in the tank because it makes it harder for you to find the poo later on). You can try to bath him in EPSOM salt (not aquarium salt) - this will help him excrete liquid from his body.

"Use One Gallon of pretreated water adding 1 Tablespoon of Epsom Salt. As a help in keeping the stress levels down, make sure the bath water is the same temperature as the tank water. Add your betta. Watching him closely, allow him to swim in the bath for 15 to 30 minutes "or" until he begins to show signs of undue stress "or" the result you are hoping for occurs in that your betta relives himself"

i personaly dont think thats dropsy.Looks like he has eaten a huge tub of fish food.Lol.I would insolate him and not feed for a few days then try a cooked pea :good:

Awww, that's what my poor Afia looks like, except unlike yours mine is pineconing.

Maybe your lil guy is just eating too much. I'd take Hoddy's & Minni's suggestion. Isolate him for a little bit, don't feed him and see what happens.

he's been isolated before and when I first noticed him getting big I didn't feed him but once every three days.

Might just be me, but he looks like he's clogged up. You need to flush his system out.. shelled pea me thinks (although I could have that wrong)

How old is the fish?

Have you fasted him and fed him a pea?

Has he pooped lately?

If so and he still looks the same, he may have a tumor. I've had a few old timers that get tumors. Nothing you can do except keep them comfy.

Good luck.

my poor kisame looks the same way too i tried to give him a cook pea and epson salt bath but nothing has change. i dont even see him poop. good luck with your fish

I'm interested to read this thread as my male CT looks similar although not quite so fat, without pineconing. I noticed it on Saturday so he's now on a fast and he'll also get a pea in a few days time.

I hope everyone's fish are ok  *hug*
