ive read conflicting advice about keeping bettas.
ive been lookin through some websites which have said it is best to keep one male to 2 or 3 females. but im sure ive read on here that you cant do that.
and that if u get a male, u can only have one.
but ive also read that several females can be kept together because they arent as aggressive

can anyone enlighten me

I was at the LFS today and asked I was told one male to two females so I will await to see if this is right :)

never keep a male with any other betta, male or female. this will end in fishy bloodshed.

females need to be kept either singly like a male or in groups of 5+ (in a tank no smaller than 10 US gallons). females can be just as aggressive as males, especially if they aren't spawn siblings and have previously been kept alone.

Thanks for that (LFS :grr: )

Male and females should be sperate until spawing. Females should only be in groups of 5 or above so they make their own pecking order and no one gets picked on.

I keep a male with 3 females in a community and none of the fish are ever harmed. He does love show off to them tohugh!!! :D

Should be interesting to see how long that lasts.... while it does work on rare occasions, it should never be attempted or encouraged, because about 99% of the time, someone eventually "snaps" from the unnatural conditions and you come home to dead fish.

I wouldent suggest anyone try it. I wouldent want to be responsible for the death of somones pet. Well its about 5 months since they were intorduced. My male betta seems to be more intrested with my angel, LOL

I have read that it is a good idea to keep one male to two females when spawning to reduce aggresion, but not continously. Maybe they were mixing it up with that information?

nope, it's not right for spawning either!
the (carefully selected!) male and the female are introduced carefully into their own breeding tank over the space of about 2 weeks for spawning.

???
I dont see the problem if my tank is fine and none of my fish are harmed then why make the :X face. I have a 4 gallon tank if i ever need it. Sorry off topic but have to defend my fishies.
Thanks
Sean
It's just not something I'd ever recommend. Glad to hear it's working for you, but keep in mind that things can change in an instant. Personally, I wouldn't risk it, particularly since you do already have another tank available.

For me the problem of keeping a Betta with an angel would be the possibility of nipped fins at the least, let alone the possibility of major aggression. Betta are often not to be medicated at the same dose as other fish and can be (it seems to me) more susceptible to bacterial and fungal infections from nips. These of course are my reasons for not keeping Bettas in communities, even the most peaceful ones.

Forgive the off subject digression, please, jenny.
