Hi All, i have a Crown Tail Male Siamese Fighting Fish, in a 60L Tank with 8 Guppies. They have integrated very well and i have had no problems. I did however want to add a new individual fish but i was told that a tank born Angel Fish would actually attached the Crown Tail..? I thought it would be the other way around. Can anyone reccomend a large (ish) fish that i could add to the mix. I was talked out of adding a red tailed shark as it would probably attack everything, however, i have seen small red tailed sharks happily swim with guppies......can anyone advise on this, thanks
Baz

firstly guppys and bettas dont go well together, the bright colours of the guppys are seen by the betta as another male betta (unless your betta is a female)i dotn think you have any more room for a bigish fish but other people on the forum will advise you further.how much in gallons is 60 litres?

acording to this site: http://mike-edwardes.members.beeb.net/converter.html 60 litres is 15 gallons.

60 litres is about 15 US gallons, b.c.f.c. :)

BarryP - You don't really have room to add an Angel or a big fish like that. You might be able to add a small school of some kind of non-nippy Tetra, like Glowlights, or a school of Rasboras. However, I'd be a little worried about the Guppies and the Betta. You might have one of those very rare Bettas that will just tolerate tankmates. But more often then not, you'll wake up one day and find all the Guppy's tails shredded. They can seem fine, and then this will happen. :/ I'd advise you to either take out the Guppies, or take out the Betta. If you take out the Betta, you could stick him in a 5 gallon, with some plants and decorations, and he'll be happy for life. Bettas really don't need tankmates, they are fine alone.

was thinking about that but i wasnt too sure, thats a great little page as well.thx

As usual my LFS has given me false information. I wasnt aware that the Crown Tail was a "Betta"..? I have been doing my best to feed the Betta seperately by luring the guppies to to flakes and then dropping a block of worms in on the betta. He seems to devour this and hasnt yet attacked or gone close to biting the guppies. He did however eat one of my platy fry.If i was to seperate the betta in his own tank what would you then reccomend that i add to the tank. The guppies have lovely colouration but i want larger fish with a bit of personality..? Bare in mind that i will be upgrading to a larger tank early next year so i could add a fish that could get bigger.?

A single dwarf gourami?

If you are upgrading the tank, it's really best to wait before adding anything that will get too big.

I agree a dwarf gourami might be a good addition but your guppies and the betta might be a bit nippy because they have long barbels. It really is a case of try and see though. Honey & Robin gouramis also stay small :)

thats another name for them. They are Betta Splendens. Lots of people do know them as Siamese Fighting Fish, however your LFS should definately have told you theyre bettas. My LFS sells them as "bettas"... i think thats better, since it makes it easier to find info.

however you probably should have done some looking into the fish before getting them, you would have found out that they are bettas, and that colorful/long finned fish wont go well w/them... so now you know, and next time, google it before getting it ;)
