Hi Guys

A couple of days ago I got a Siamese fighting fish (their a betta right?), and he is not eating. He is in about a 8-10L tank by himself and seems quite active. I put 3 food pellets in each morning and he will recognise them as food suck one it and then spit it out again and will eye of the other pellets but will not try them.

The pellets are the type the pet store was feeding them, what’s going on? A environmental thing? As he was in a cup. Also I have not tried live food yet, is it worth a shot?

Cheers

:hi: to TFF Mallion.

When introduced to a new environment, bettas will often ignore food for a while. They usually start eating within the first week. Don't worry, bettas can go up to two weeks without food, but it isn't healthy.

More likely than not, he is just stressed by the move from the pet store. He should start eating tomorrow or the next day, if not, you could try bloodworms (live or freeze dried) which practically all bettas love.

Good luck with him. :good:

When I first got my fighter he behaved in exactly the same way. After about four days of worrying myself silly he decided to start eating! :D

Thanks for that guys, puts me at ease to hear similare stories. So I'll just let him be for a couple more days.

Should I keep putting food in the tank though, or just not feed him for a day or two?

Thanks again, and thanks for the welcome :D

You're welcome. :)

I think you should just continue what you're doing, soon he will adjust.

He may not be fed pellets at the store where you got him hence he doesn't like them. But relax, it's nothing unusual for bettas to refuse food when you first get them. He will eat and like Splish said, if he doesn't eat get him bloodworms. I haven't found a betta yet that doesn't like them!
