Yesterday I bought a betta for my community tank, and I found him flaring at all the others as the poor little man was in a tank full of them all, just floating in bags

by the time I took him he was exhausted, lying on his side, still flaring bless him.

I called him Shylo as he seemed very shy, until this morning, I came downstairs to him quite happily making a bubble nest

but his name has stuck.

My little man, i couldnt get him to flare AND hold the camera, so i took pics in passing

I now have a 240l tank, which he will be going into with the other fish, and the 180l will be set up as a betta tank :D

i'll be having 2 boys at either end and a sorority of females in the centre

aww he is beautiful...he must be so happy to be in your tank.Good job for taking him home :)

You said the LFS houses the bettas in bags floating in tanks???   I think thats even worse than how they sell them around here in those little cups... at least they get fresh air this way

i was totally confused by it, they had the little TINY tanks that they poor blighters usually get put in, but they must have had 20-30 male bettas all bagged up!

by the time i got the poor man home, his bag had totally deflated, i didnt think he'd survive

now, my "extremely shy boy" is now not so shy! he sits happily watching the fry in the net, and tries to suck them through! and he may do eventually as the beggars can fit through and keep escaping!

he even blatantly ignored good bloodworm out in to keep trying to get the fry!

Brilliant idea, about the betta tank! :)
Lovely betta, what tail type is he, he is an amazing colour! :good:

Also, Just be slighlty wary about the guppies, i had to rehome mine, as they were slightly nippy.
:)

hes a VT (its all the LFS round here tend to sell

he will be going into the rio once the vision is up and running!

what he said lol

i am keeping an eye on all fish, but they all keep themselves to themselves thankfully.

and no kev, he isnt going inthe rio, i want MORE :p

oh yeah i'll be spamming the boards :D

unfortunately, things have had to go on hold for now, as i need the current tank to settle before i can move anything

Shylo passed away earlier, as I think he drowned due to the condition he had, apparently he had columnaris presentation. he has NEVER flared for me, and not quite seemed right, but i then thought he was ok as he was fry hunting. i also lost 2 female guppies with similar patches, so i assume the stock i bought from shirley aquatics must have been ill

such a shame, i saw a patch this morning, carried on with the water changes but put salt in this time, but i was too late :-(

rip little man :-(

thats sad. he seemed to be full grown by the legth of his fins. at least you gave him a nice home. watch any other fish in that tank closely for signs of fuzz or white patches. colmnaris can be quick.
he was a very nice looking boy.
better luck ext time.
CHEERS!

Yeah, he was gorgeous, and seemed like he had the temperament of Mr. Wimpy Fish; so sad. :( I was afraid that Mr. Wimpy Fish was going to die, and then I moved him into the heated 5-gallon tank and *presto!* well, the brown thing in his gills was *gone*. :D Absolutely *gone*, and the rest of it left this evening. ^^;

Anyways, I hope that nothing else happens to any of your *other* Bettas! ^^; :D

Wait a second, how did he *drown* because of columnaris?! Couldn't he still go up to the top to get air?!
