Shy Jack Dempsey

I jiat bought my first jack and he lives with two bps and an eel...do large cichlids take a while to come out and swim freely while someones in the room? Evry time I look at him he hides. Water stats are good. Just wondering if everyone elses took a while to be les shy. Its day 4 and he's in a 55g...thanks

he will be shy for the st few days because he is settling in i have had mine for a couple of days and he is a bit nervy still but he should be fine how big is he mine is about 2-3 inches

Good to know. When I bought him he was labeled as a medium, and I would say he is around 4 inches.

Its a bummer because my my tank is nicely decorated but I have hardly seen them swim through it

set up video recorder an go make a coffee leave it around 5mins without anyone in the room,tv of etc,,then reply video, i thought a while ago after i scared my jag,that was it he was always laying on bottom, i did this and within 10secs he was up and boucing round the tank like normal again, took about 1month to get over his scare videos catch everything

Haha yea deff should try the video. I know they feel better when I leave the towel over their tank but the second they see somethng moving in the outside world they hide..boo
