Not sure whether this question is best posted here or in the invertebrates section... Posting in both. :look:

I have seen that there a some quite large species of shrimp available, some around 10" or so, and not too difficult to get hold of.

Would these larger species be ok in a cichlid tank, or would they just end up being an expensive meal? I have a severum, GT, 2 firemouths and a krib, also silver dollars and a gibby. GT and firemouths are juvies. I just like what a good job my amano's do in my community, would be great to have similar in with the big guys!

my krib used to live with my amanos, and they were fine together, that's why I was wondering if a bigger shrimp species might be ok!

Do you mean crayfish when you say 10" shrimps, as I havn't heard of a 10" shrimp.

I wouldn't mix them, you hear stories of it working but more often than not they are the exception to the rule. What normally happens is that the cichlids would kill the crayfish when it moults (and is vulnerable) or even instances of the crayfish killing the cichlids. Its my opinion that they shouldn't be mixed.

shroob, I think I got confused - probably meant 10cm! It was just a thought anyway, after reading about shrimps a little more I found that very information, I didn't realise it took up to 2 weeks for their new exoskeleton to harden!

I was just dreaming in my little head at the possibility, as it would be cool to have something similar with the cichlids. I thought I would ask as I'd be annoyed for not doing so, if further down the line I'd found it was possible!

Thank you all for your wisdom! :good:

I now have a question, or rather a request for further info on malaysian trumpet snails, would they be ok in a cichlid tank, I've heard they're good for turning over sand?
