After my Panda Corydoras disaster I thought i'd get a couple of shrimps to keep any small amount of food that gets past my fish off the substrate. I've read up a little on them and I was wondering what kind I should plump for. Thanks in advance. :)

Amano shrimp are the "default" aquarium shrimp. You might also like to look into bumblebee, cherry, or tiger shrimp for some alternatives. I'd just go for the amano shrimp to clean up.

No, amano shrimp are really the best option for your tank. Other smaller shrimp will be eaten by the gouramis. Amano shrimp do a great job of cleaning algae too :good: . Try to buy the biggest amanos you can find though.

Sorry, I don't have much of a right to do this, but I have a question and I don't think I need a whole topic for it.

Are Amano Shrimps the same thing as ghost shrimps?

Well, for one, Amano Shrimp are mainly algae-eaters, and ghost shrimp are scavengers, but off the top of my head, as to looks...

1. Ghost shrimp are quite a good deal larger than Amano shrimp.

2. Amano Shrimp have some brownish spots on the sides of their bodies. Ghost shrimps are almost totally transparent.

3. Ghost shrimp have comparably long arms and tiny but noticable pinchers. Amano shrimp have two pairs of pinchers on short arms.

So yeah, google pictures of one and the other and you'll see they don't look much alike

Thanks guys. :good:

I'll see if I can find some Amano Shrimps at one of my LFS's. How many am I best with for a 200L tank?
