Not new to the hobby but new to shrimp keeping..

Been reading quite a lot on the best filters to use and sponge filters keep popping up in the majority of stuff i have read..

So i guess my question is which sponge filter should i go for? im not familiar with them so sorry if the question seems a bit stupid..

I don't think it really matters. Get the biggest one you can, as long as it doesn't take up too much space in the tank.

If you're only having shrimps, their bioload is so small, even the smallest ones would be adequate. If you're thinking of having fish as well, you'll need something bigger.

I am also new to shrimps (Not acquired yet). I have a small 110lt tank that I will be using with under gravel filter run by an external filter of 600lt /hr. Returned by a spray bar. Question:- Will this be ok for shrimps if so what type and how many. Thanks.

When I started a shrimp tank all the research I found also said to go for a sponge filter. I did and didn't like it at all. It worked fine as far as water quality for shrimp but it was so bulky I felt that it took too much space from the tank and was a pain to aquascape around it. I put in a hand on the back filter with a sponge cover on the intake and liked that SO much better.

Also you might find like I did that having just shrimp was a little boring and decide to add a couple of shrimp friendly fish. If you do that you would want something stronger than a sponge filter.

And what shrimp friendly fishes you got? I want to get some too!

Anw OP, a small hang on the back filter will be perfect!

I got endler's livebearers. Guppies work as well. They might have a go at some of the babies but if you have enough cover the majority survive. Hatchetfish would work well too.

I have Cardinals and Serpae in the tank that I was going to introduce the shrimp.(when I can get some info on them)
