Shrimp Cave

Hi All,
 
Just ordered some slate to make some features for the shrimp tank. I'm going to make a cave type structure, is it best to have a closed back or open? Or does it not really matter?

I hate using slate to make caves D: Could have made one out of plastic?

As long as it's 'fish-proof', I wouldn't see it mattering
 
Just make sure it allows them to actually hide away

It's going to be a shrimp only tank.

It wont really matter in a shrimp only tank, but they will like small crevices especially when moulting. I have usually seen tubes laid on their side made into a pyramid structure mainly used for shrimp caves and they seem very popular.

Yes, seen the tubes for sale. Just fancy using a bit of slate as I think it looks a bit more interesting.
