Hello,

So I've got 10 cherry shimp and 10 fry. I bought some fry food today and I read on the back it contains copper (copper sulphate) 1.5mg/kg. Packet is 10g. I only plan on feeding this powder 2-3 times a week and I do 2 30% - 50% water changes a week. The amount of food will be very small. I will dip my finger in to the packet to get some of the powder food stuck on my finger and dip that in to the tank.

Is this enough to harm the shrimp or should I find an alternative?

Thanks for reading! :)

Personally, I don't see it being a problem, especially with it being so little.

I may be wrong though so don't take just my opinion. I don't see why fry food would be made so it's dangerous to other tank mates

Yeah was just being sure :)

I think though, fry are usually kept in a separate tank to most things.

So I've just been doing a bit of research and you should definitely be fine :)

Copper sulfate is a compound and isn't as dangerous as elemental copper. In such a small dose, it might even be beneficial to your shrimp as copper is needed to carry oxygen in their blood - Apparently the Hikari Shrimp Cuisine food has copper sulfate in it for this reason!

A number of fish foods also have copper sulfate in them while it isn't stated on the label...

So yeah, I'd go ahead with using it

Thank you very much for researching that! Good to know I can feed them. :)
