Shrimp And Co2

So, what if you're not using CO2? Do the pH and KH go hand in hand in the same way?

In most cases the Ph and KH go hand in hand. they are however independent of each other. influenced by if you like.

You can see this simply by finding someone else in the country who has the same Ph as you. They may have very different KH.

So you see a KH of X does not mean a Ph of X. however in most cases the KH drops and the Ph will drop.

If Ph mattered so much then we would be trying to get water really acidic (<4) for some amazon species. But we don't we don't need to stick rigidly to those guides we are told at all. In fact many of those guides that give you a very narrow corridor (i.e. between 6 and 7) are miles away from the fish's actual natural ph. We can keep Neons for example in Ph from 3 right up to 9. Many people can show this. KH in there can also be irrelevant.

More important is water quality and stability.

Yeah, I personally never fiddle with pH, I just thought it was bad for shrimp if it changed suddenly. Thanks for the info...16 years into the hobby and you never stop learning :good:

I have a 46 gal tank with co2 and shrimp and they are mixing just fine! Give it a go! I have had the c02 for 3 months, havent lost any shrimp and far as i know.
