What are the other inhabitants? I see the tail of a gold gourami there, and that could be the culprit. Gouramis and bettas, being from the same family, are very aggressive torwards each other. The Betta will not developed infections as long as you keep the water very clean. I would rehome the betta, get him his own 5 gallon tank, he would be much happier :good:
If not, the gourami will keep pestering the betta until the betta dies

That's quite a bite there. It's like someone used scissors. I agree that the gourami could be the problem there.

yeah ive got 2 gouramis one is very large and the other about the same size as the betta when it had its fins. tbh i didnt know that they didnt get on until after a few months and then the fighter would bully the gouramis but now the larger one just hides away from the fighter.

i know im not happy he is one of favourite fish had amazing coulour and large fins

also i have a reed fish some 5banded barbs the guoramis, sword tailed molly and a golden ram and a bottom feeder that i dont know the name of :fun:

Could we have a picture of the bottom feeder? And how big is the tank?
Honestly, it could have been either the barbs, the gouramis, or the reed fish.

Like I said before, get a 5gallon tank for the betta. He won't be attacked, and you will find he will be happier alone :good:
If you get a bigger tank, like a 10 gallon, you could put the betta in there and he could have some tank mates like Celestial Pearl Danios or Boraras brigittae. These fish will not harm the betta and vice versa :good:

i have a 27 gallon tank and yeah i think i will have to get another so that he can heal and live happily just strange how he has been fine up until now. newest fish was the reed fish so could be him.
just seen in other pics that the bottom feeder is a bronzed cory dora

Reed Fish need a minimum of 50 gallons, they get really big. Either get a bigger tank or return him, I'm afraid.
Bronze corydoras need to be in groups of +6 to be happy. And they need a sand substrate or else they'll hurt their whiskers.
Other than that, I'd say your stock is ok.

i rescued the cory from my friend he had about 10 and he no longer cared for the fish and sadly they all died apart from this one and ive had him way over a year now and had no problems so maybe he likes being a loner not sure haha, the guys from the fish store said they can get big but they are slow growers so i should be ok and when he gets to big to just bring him back and they will have him
