If you heard some one at a lfs give drastically wrong advice would you say something or not.i heard some one sell a red tail shark to a family who owned a 60l tank with guppys and i kept quiet but now i feel really bad about it and wish i said something. what would you do?

We've all been there.
Some people just don't want to know and I've had advice thrown back in my face more often than it's been accepted, so I don't say anything anymore. Who are they going to listen to, someone who works there or someone listening in?
People have a responsibility to research any pet they're buying thoroughly and with everyone having net access these days there's even less of an excuse, so unless it's really awful like an oscar in a goldfish bowl, I keep my trap shut and let them learn like everyone else has to.

When in a PaH store the other day I saw a sales assistant telling a cutomer they could have up to 10 WCMMs for a tank that couldn't have been more than 20L (I'm sure the customer pointed towards the range of kids fish tanks, and they're all pretty small). I seriously felt like going to tell them something, especially as I had also seen a couple of customers being sold goldfish which I doubted were going to good homes (I heard the sales person telling one customer how to float the fish, so I can only assume the customer knew very little about fish and just for the record, they told the customer to float for about 15 minuites then release from what I overheard 
).
No cycling questions, existing stocking questions or anything like that asked.
It's so sad when you see fish being sold, knowing that they probably won't be living very long in their new homes

Actually the chain you mention does check how long the tank has been running, how many fish are already in the tank etc. Not every assistant will know what to do with the info you give them, but they DO ask.
I've been in a store where the sales person clearly knew nothing because he read the info sign about the fish to the person! I ended up going over and explaining the fish (It was a freeking Platy tank, btw 
) about their likes and such and even helped gender the fish (Not that that mattered to the customer)

i know the feeling... all te fish i have ever bought i still have... except Jammy dodger, my Betta who i decided shoudnt spend his last few days dying of dropsy in a horrid store tank, so i took him home, and he died peacefully just 3 hours later... long live jammy... and to dropsy, go blow your own trumpet
At least he probably died in better surroundings than a store tank being stared at by people. I must say, that doesn't sound like a very good store though if the fish are severely ill
All chains have good & bad stores.
I'm lucky as mine on the whole is ok, but if I heard really bad advice being given I'd definitely say something.

Hmmmmm, I can't even imagine the face a customer would have when a 12 year old corrects the seller
My LFS is good with advice, but some of the customers in there are bad. Today I heard a woman say to one of her many children, 'We cor av any more of them, cus they am just et'. (brummy by the way) In the end she had some more, but I wouldn't have liked to argue with her.
