I went to one of my local fish stores I have mixed feelings about them some of their fish are in bad shape. Yet they have some cool ones.

They have red tail catfish as you all know these fish out grow tanks they are huge. Then I saw a sturgen ( I'm not sure how to spell it). But they had 3 babies 1 foot long. I said don't these fish get really big like 5-7 feet the guys like Im not sure. Then said and don't they need to be in salt water when they grow up. The kids like I don't know maybe. Yeah they do but go into rivers to spawn. Grrr I was so mad to see these amaIng fish being sold. I wanted to go off on the store owner for setting these fish up for animal abuse.

I was very up set that Any store would sell a fish that needs over 300 gal to live. A freaking sturgen is not a pet oh and they had a 2 foot nurse shark. Another fish that should never be sold it is just not fair.

What do you think about these extra large fish being sold? I personaly think it is wrong not many of use normal fish keepers can keeps a 5-7 foot longfish in a proper tank. Some fish should never be kept in tanks unless at a public aquarium.

These fish should not be kept as regular stock in pet shops. They are going to be impulse buys, by people who are not able to provide adequate housing when the fish grows bigger. I don't have a problem with private collectors owning these fish, IF they are willing to look after them properly. The LFS should not stock them - they should be special orders ONLY for people who have thought about it. Out of sight, out of mind - if Fish X is not staring down your customers, most of them will never develop a desire to own it and that can only be a good thing if not 1% of them can care for it properly.

Sadly, many of the larger fish you see in the LFS are ones that have been rehomed because they've outgrown customers tanks.
It is no excuse and they shouldn't be for sale but sometimes the shop is given no choice.
I've had customers threaten to "flush" fish if we don't take them off their hands and it's also been known for them to dump them in a box outside the shop. Admittedly, we won't rehome anything that gets too large but then we won't sell anything that gets too large either.

Yeah only on request form a collector that has the proper set up should,d these fish be sold. But honestly who can house a fish that gets to be 7+ feet long and can weigh 1000+lb.

Yeah its good to take peoples fish that they can no longer house. But this store ordered these fish to have in stock.
