It's simple economics. If the shops were going to profit from longer hours they would have them. One near us shortened its Sunday hours from 9-5 to 10-4 as it just wasn't getting enough custom to cover the costs of being open the extra hours. They may miss out on some trade, but they benefit from less costs.
