Should Lfs Stay Open Later.

The main store I use opens late on a Friday although the quality of stock has deterioated somewhat over the last 1-2 months :/

Another store close to me is open until 7pm every day except Sundays obviously and although the variety of livestock there isn't great I think the point of this thread is more for quick-fixes of equipment/medication so it is very handy for that as he stocks a very good range.

The staff could do maybe 2 extra hours once a week so they could stay open abit later.

Most of my lfs stay open 'till 7-8! They're very handy sometimes whn you need that emergency medicine!

Completely agree with Nina.

As someone who has done nights, weekends, bank holidays and weird shifts my entire working life, I see no earthly reason why lfs should have to open late at night. A lot of them open on Sundays as it is.

It's up to me to get myself organised.

[sub]Not that I actually am [/sub]

My lfs is open till 9 all week and cant remeber weekend hours but i work mon - fri 8-5 so i really like that i can stop by sometime in the evning after work for things. And ya for an emergancy id even head to the walmart for a emergancy heater or meds... Although i have both on hand it is handy to have my lfs open so late

For the people who work, yes.

I am a SAHM, so I am home all day and go to the LFS when I please.

my aquarium/pet shop is open 9-5 weekdays 9-4 saturdays and 10-4 sundays, if i had to work longer hours than that i think i'd be searching for a new job. plus it's not always a matter of "keeping it open"; if we had to keep puppies awake, fish lights on, and extra staff around after 5pm it would only waste money. the only reason i would, or can see a customer coming to my shop after 5pm would be an absolute emergency, and 2-3 emergencies a week doesn't = money.

Mine also stays open til 8 o'clock on thursdays but then i have a pets at home that saty open til 8 o'clock every night

Staff working longer hours would mean paying them more which means the cost of the extra wages would have to be passed onto the consumer by price increases on stock.

Agree with CFC, LFS' don't need to open for longer hours.
I always tend to go the LFS on a Saturday or Sunday Morning before the rush starts.

If I have an emrgency i have a few Neigbours who can always help out with fishy stuff.

Having LFS opening later would help people like me who do monday - friday 8-6 in the office so cant visit the LFS until the wknd, but as people have said who's gonna work the hours in the LFS.

They'd probably need to bring in part time staff to do smaller afternoon/evening shifts, which could well end up being people who dont have as much knowledge as the full time staff, which would I'm sure contribute a to a few more posts on here saying 'i went to my LFS today and was advised blah blah, can u believe it!'

As good as it would be for me to have access to LFS later on in the day, I can see the customers coming off worse - with higher prices and possibly further bad advise given by unknowledgeable part timers.

Yeah, and look at the price tags they stick on their fish to compensate for it!!

My LFS of choice closes at 8:00 M-F and until 6 on the weekend. I've never really had a problem.. they also have at least 5 cars waiting out front every day for them to open (the freshwater section isn't much larger than a dorm room).

petco is also open until 9:00 (week + Sat) and 7 (sunday)
