I'm conditioning my two plakats for breeding, and I'm breeding them in a ten gallon. It's empty, no occupants. I was curious however, should I move the male in there? Right now they're in a divided 2.5 gallon, which is on the small side I know. I'd do it in a second but I'm concerned where to put the female. He might not see her as much if I put her tank next to the big one, but he might be happier and bubblenesting. Suggestions?

Pop him in the 10g if I was you. Doesn't matter if he doesn't see her properly for a day or two. Even a week would be fine. Get him settled in and happy (don't rush him, this could take more days.) and then worry about the female. Keep feeding them the conditioning foods. When your male is settled, and both are looking good, put your female into the boys tank. Using a pop bottle/some other see-through container WITH A LID ON :p Now it is simply up to your Bettas to do their thing. He 'should' bubblenest and she 'should' stripe up before you let her in to be with him, however we all know bettas, they can be as straight forward or as complicated as they like lol

It is best for the pair to see each other during conditioning, because most female like to "get to know" the males beforehand, lol. Usually makes things go a little quicker. But it's not absolutely necessary. Could you possibly divide the 10 gallon (you can make some cheap dividers that work great)? If not, I'd still say to put the male in there and give the female all of the 2.5 gallon. :)

Hm, I dunno. I could pop over to the craft store today maybe and make one of the cheap ones. I guess I'll put the male in the big tank with the female's tank sitting next to it until I can get the divider, Sound good?
