Hi all.
I have a fluval roma 125 and was wondering if i should upgrade the pump and filter which come with it?
The current internal filter seems to get blocked fairly quickly.

I have been told a fluval 205 or 305 external would help cut down on water changes and keep the water in a better condition.

Any help would be appreciated. :good:

I must admit, I prefer external to internal filters as they seem so much more practical and reliable.
A Fluval 205 would be more than good enough for your tank and it never hurts to over filter.
The external is easier to clean, frees up room in your tank and does seem to give better filtration. I say go for it! :good:

A larger filter is all ways a good idea, helps in less cleaning of the filter but i wouldnt cut down on the water changers.
As for the filters your thinking of getting i dont have any exprince of those sorry, as i only have the FX5

I am completely unfamiliar with the filter but from personal experience and some other peoples stories, generally the filters and other equipment bought with tanks arent the greatest, and are normally the bare minimum if that (i had a 55 gallon tank come with a heater that maxes out at 50 gallon tanks supposidly)..

Murph

I agree with this. A larger filter helps you handle a larger bio load (messier or more fish) with more time between filter cleanings. It is not related directly to water changes. Water changes are a good habit to be cultivated for a lot of other reasons. There are plenty of things that water changes take out that filters do not.

Thanks for all the info.
I think a larger filter will be placed on the shopping list!
