Hi

recently cleaning out pond and came across 8 or so baby fish...too small to tell what kind...thing is they seemed to have been hiding in the algae....I have now removed this and wonder whether the baby fish which currently reside in a bucket should be returned to the main pond....the main pond contains 6 koi, 4 goldfish...1 golden orfe...?

If I should keep them separate how do I look after them...ie feeding...proper container...and plants????...and when could I return them to the pond...and realistically, what are their chances of surviving?

Any plants you could add to give them something to hide in? Or could you cycle another tank until they are big enough to return to the pond? I think if you return them now, they will be eaten by the bigger fish.

Keep them in an aquarium or kiddy pool feeding them GF food.
Crumble it up so they can eat it with ease.
You can also make your own food using veggies and fruit.
My GF eat peas in addition to their other food.
After they grow some, i wait til mine are two inches before adding them to the ponds.Thats it.

Good recepie for GF and KOI food is.

Canned or frozen or fresh.

Peas.
Green Beans.
Banana.
Oat Meal. (cooked)
Apple.
Moosh all these together and freeze them into balls or squares or whatever.
Yummy,fish love it.
You may want to moosh some bugs into the mixture as well.
Beef heart is nice also.

Good Luck!

It's not very good for looks, but what my grandmother does for the babies in her goldfish pond is she puts a mop head in there. A clean one, of course. It's like...sea weed...in a fresh water pond... Anyway, it works well for her hiding all of those little baby fish. She often as little growing up black goldfish in there. The mop head, which she always has a blue one, soon turns green from the algae and it'll start looking like sea weed! All righty. My two cents.

  cool, if i were you, i would not remove the fish or put them into a tank or pool.I would add new protective plants for them to hide away in. Id feed them what you feed their parents, whos their parents we dont know yet untill they are older, it will be exciting.
OTOH you prob wont to see and make sure they grow up big etc. If you had them ina tank you could then keep an eye on them.
