well, guess ill come back to fishkeeping when i get older and have a home. i like raising fish, but its really hard for me to change the water, and if i spill water on the carpet, everybody gets mad. i have to walk more than 30 feet to get to the sink, and i have to make sure i dont spill anything. im not a big kid, so its really hard for me. my mom wouldnt let me buy a new bucket because we have lots of buckets, just that the one i was using was a nice sturdy one. the other buckets bend when i pour water in it, and one time, the handle snapped and i spilled water everywhere. when i complain that the buckets are too weak, my mom says use my bucket, the only problem is that she uses it to carry soap water. i know 3 months without a water change is really bad, but soap water is worse isnt it?

One thing I need to know Dorkhedeos, did I say thing wrong in my reply?

I apologise if I had, I'll watch my 'French' next time! :D

Well, I saw nothing flaming or trolling in the original question... Don't know where some of you came up with that!! Just because he said he thinks his fish are boring? :dunno:
I agree, you already know what's best to do right now. I tried model building when I was young. i didn't have the patients to do a good job of it and had several unfished models and a lot of the stuff. I am glad I saved the stuff now that I am older. I realize I have more patients and ability to do a good job (now if I only had the time...). Hold onto everything, you will come back to the hobby some day!

:D Not sure how old you are, but I think what you are experiencing is perfectly normal. You are only young once, so if you don't have time for the fish right now I say it is a good thing that you give them up and follow what does interest you. Give yourself a few years and you'll have a job and be able to buy a few things for yourself, if you hang on to your tank you may decide to get back into fish again, then you'll be able to buy supplies as you need them. I know it's a rough decision. Go do what you want to do while you are still young (but I think someday you will be back!) Enjoy, have a good life!

Well, he's imed me outside of the forum for quite some time and I know he's not trolling or flaming, I just think some of you are too uptight.

I think you should listen to these people and when you can do water changes at least once a week then maybe you can start again.

Edit: I know 3 months seems bad to you guys now but think of all the people in the world who don't do water changes at all! And I'm sure when you first started you didn't do water changes every week, you probably didn't know any better either.

Hi Dorkhedeos :)

I remember you. :D

You always did have a hard time with your fishkeeping, didn't you? Perhaps you are right to think about putting the hobby aside for awhile.

When you are older and have a place of your own, you can always set up your tank again. There's really no point in keeping a tank if you don't get enjoyment from it.

when i turned 14, i got a tank, heater, and a filter for my birthday. then when i got fish at the lfs, i saw an arowana, after that i did water changes every 3 days to prove to my parents i can handle a bigger tank. i didnt want to get an arowana until i could breed other fish though. we had no space, so my parents moved my tanks into my room, and i never got the bigger tank :( tahts when i started to think taht i would never get bigger fish. i wouldve probably been more intrested if i had a bigger fish that was active, but now its too late to get new fish and too early to start over again with a bigger tank. Inchworm, i think you are confusing me with Krap101 :p or maybe you arent

maybe i will become an arowana breeder some day :dunno:

by the way, to all the people that think i dont know anything about fishkeeping. you wouldnt believe how much research i did on every fish i wanted to get in the future. i spent like 5 hours everyday for a week looking for info and pictures of fish. to me, this was even more important that homework. that explains why i got C's in all my classes  i even know all the diseaes sicknesses that an arowana can get, and how to cure and prevent it :D did anybody restore the amount of posts after the "incident" happened? cause i remember having way more than what i have right now

well, thanks for everything, ill continue reading this forum once in a while

Edit: oh yeah, i forgot to mention that im 14.5 years old, and whats this flamer stuff?

hey! i got a good idea! since i like to build and fix things, why dont i make one of those betta tanks taht are split into four, and then when i have the money and time, i can use it :D and i can probably make my own filter too, doesnt seem too complex

Whats the likelihood that you would clean it?
Pretty slim from what you've said so far.

By all means make it, but don't use it unless you have the time/bucket/inclination for cleaning.

That's not a bad idea. I was going to suggest maybe getting a betta if you are still interested in fish but don't want the hassle. Changing the water in a one gallon bowl is no real chore, and isn't very heavy even if you are a little guy!

indeed,

i know what your going through though, i have to do the same thing you do, the long walk to empty the water, i just bought a 20 gallon tote (storage bin) i drag along the carpet until i hit teh kitchen but i even drag it across the kitchen floor too when it comes time for the water change, im not a small person (215 pounds) or anything but water is heavy :flex:

Hey don't be angry!

There's no point. Not everyone thought you were flaming *cough* me included *cough*

Good luck when you come back to it and remember to do your research first!
