Should I Start Fishless Cycle

Filled tank yesterday and it's been running for around 30 hrs should I now start fishless cycle? The main reason I'm asking is because the water is a bit cloudy (which i've posted in a previous post earlier) and was advised to take the carbon and put in some filter wool. So, bearing that in mind should I wait until I get some of the wool before I start? The Taffy Apple has kindly offered to give me some media for the filter which I will be collecting from him later in the week.

no harm in starting i started then added my wool wool later on in the cycle. as its your bads or bio balls or noodles that the bacteria grow on best.

Started yesterday lunchtime so will check ammonia level today, and so it begins................................

You have added ammonia, right? It's not going to appear on it's own without fish.

Yes, I've added ammonia yesterday, checked the level with API test kit and got a reading of around 5ppm so just waiting for that to drop now. No point in testing for a few days at least so just waiting. The Taffy Apple has kindly offered me some media from his tank which I'm collecting on Thursday hopefully that should speed things up considerably. Checked the PH and had a reading of around 7.6, tested water from the tap and had a reading around 6.6. I read that the ammonia may initially raise the PH level so will keep an eye on things

you want a high ph that ph is fine while you are cycling as a low ph level will crash your cycle not good and a high heat as well i had mine on 30. the ph will drop when you do a 90% water change WHEN YOUR CYCLE HAS FINISHED

Check. Bring some tap-water with you, if i haven't already mentioned it...we'll work out with my KH/GH test kit if your water is as soft as mine the other side of this darn mountain
