I have an HT10 heater from Tetra and it has a little light that turns red when heating and green when it isn't heating. Should i leave the light facing the glass so you can't see it or should i leave it facing forward. When all the lights are off, you can see the heater light very clearly. Will this bother the fish like not letting them sleep?

Also, as i have mentioned before, my friend has gotten platies and he got them about a week ago. His red wag platies have started to swim with tail down and head up. They have also laid on the floor kind of sad. Also, their tails are closed instead of being wide opened like a fan. The tank is very healthy and has been cycled, he has been having these fish for about 1 week almost 2 now. His ammonia levels and everything are fine. Is it bladder problem? Why are they like this?

Im sure the light wont affect your fish when they want to sleep :)

How fine is fine with his ammonia levels? and what is the nitrite levels? this sounds like a new tank yeah?

With fish swimming like that and having clamped fins there is certainly a problem somewhere, whether it is the water or its some disease

The light will be fine.

THis friend of yours concerns me more, fish swimming with clamped fins sounds like ammonia poisoning. You haven't given a great deal of detail but that is my initial thought. It might be that the filter was not cycled (so many people think that cycling is running the tank without fish for a few days, and it isn't), or it may be that your friend has added too many fish in one go, and the filter is taking a while to catch up.

Can you answer a few more questions, the more info you give, the better the answers will be:-

1) What size is the tank?
2) How long has it been set up?
3) How was it cycled, and how long did that take?
4) What are the exact measurements of ammonia and nitrite concentration? (Saying "fine" doesn't give enough info, unfortunately)
5) How many platies did s/he add?
6) What other tank inhabitants are there?

The light wont effect your fish at all.

See if you can get your mate to post his problems here, we may be able to help.

These are my friend's water parameters, he just tested them today: calcium 475
magnesium 1380
alkalinity 179ppm (3.58 meq/l or 10.024 dKh)
ph 8.0
nitrate 10
ammonia 0

The tank has been set up for almost a month now. He has 5 platies and 4 corydoras.
The cycling process took him 6 weeks, almost 7.
He added three zebra danios to cycle his tank.
The tank is also a 10 gallon tank.
He does 25-30 percent water change every week.
