We have neon tetra's and glo-light tetras in our 60litre tank with our male fighter.. They don't even give him a second glance.

But saying that, I've seen neon tetra's tear other fish to bits in stores and etc. So, basically, I think it's a matter of how well fed they are, and if you "train" them, to have a good temperament.

Cardinals I wouldn't have thought you'd have a problem with.
You could also try some kitty tetra or ember tetra :)

As RK mentioned, if they're not getting fed any fish would probably turn on another.

Skittles

Cardinals should be fine, if the group is big enough. What size tank ave you got and whats your stocking, Tom?

Black Neon Tetra
Gold Tetra
Ruby Tetra
Lemon Tetra
Glowlight Danio (Many say Danios fin-nipp but I've kept these with a Betta and previously, 2 longfin Angelfish with no probs)
Celestial Pearl Danio (a fine peaceful alternative to Tetras)

I had 14 Lemon Tetras and they were very peaceful and social, very nice feature was I had had a lot of males and they would twist at angles displaying to each other but never any nipping :good:
:fish:

Penguin Tetras are ok so long as the other fishes fins are too long and flowing, they shoal really well together too ;)

Its a 180 litre & im currently fishless cycling so am going through the stocklist, like we do ;)

I was thinking of at least 12 cardinals

if you're gonna go with a center piece fish/fishes, i would up the card to 15-20 in a 180l. They arn't messy fish, so don't add a lot to a bioload and they love being in a big shoal.

I think the best way will be to introduce the tetras first, let them establish any territory or dominance, then add the other stock (if this is possible)

That way the fish should be busy squabbling with each other instead of with the other fish.

ive kept neon tetras with a betta before and they didnt touch it. on the other hand they did nip the pygmy corys (same size, same area of tank, so maybe seen as a threat?)

My neons seem pretty timid but they did start nipping one of their own when it became ill. I believe most fish would do this though in the same circumstances.

Thats probably because they are characins, a cousin of the pihrana. They will scavenge on the weak and helpless.

I always enjoy either rasboras or black neons as nice shoaling fish that show best in significant numbers. Both fish seem to be fairly peaceful with other slow moving fish like bettas.
