shoaling fish

andrew;....from what i read(if u are looking for a schooling fish for the one in ur sig) then you really should get at least 3 more white skirts, 1 black neon and 4 neons along with atleast 1 more cory, but you really dont have much room for that since its only a 15 gal(i maybe worng). maybe(if you dont mind) you could get rid of the white skirts and the black neon or the neons and build up thier school along with 1 or more corries.

The aquarium environment sometimes doesn't produce the "need" to school/shoal. Most fish school in the wild for protection. The old "safetly in numbers" thing. In most aquariums, we pick fish that are compatible with each other so after a while the fish realize that they aren't apt to be eaten so they begin to swim alone freely. That's not necessarily a bad thing. A fish that isn't scared or stressed is generally a much healthier fish.

Yeah, I have noticed that they venture out on their own quite often, especially the neons. They do however stick together in a school when they are feeding. They school for a little while after I do a water change, other then that, they stay in pairs of two, but they still swim all over the place non stop
