I thought it might be kind of fun to start my own Ebay business selling aquatic plants. Ive seen 5" long bushels of Java Moss going for 15 bucks or more so I figured I might be able to make off pretty good with this. How would you go about shipping plants through the mail though?

Im going to try to find some cheap tanks to start growing them in, and later on if it takes off I will get a small greenhouse to keep all the stuff in. What kind of lighting do I need to grow healthy plants? I heard the single tube lights that come with aquariums dont provide adequate lighting to makes plants flourish.

Plant care 101:

Live plants need Nitrates and trace elements to live off of. These are their food. If you don't have these your plants don't grow and die.

They need iron to help in their photosynthisis. There are some plants when they look like they are yellowing they need iron. Iron is more important to plants than most people realize.

CO2 is a good thing to have with planted tanks. This helps them grow like crazy and well it doesn't take long to have a jungle when you use CO2. It's not necissary but plants like it.

Fast growing plants are a must in any planted tank. These help keep algae under control by out compeating the algea for food.

Lighting will depend on what plants and size tank you have. Most lights need a minimum of 2 watts per gallon (US gallon) to grow.

Depending on what plants you have some are root feeders. Meaning they need a nutrient rich substrate (laterite mixed with gravel or something like that). While others have poor root systems and get their nutrients from the water its self (in the form of fertilizer).

You put all of these things together and you have an aquatic jungle for your fish to be happy in.

As for shipping plants you could use fish bags with a little bit of water and tie the top of the bag off, or you could use newspaper and wrap it around the plants and wet the paper then put it in a bag. The main thing is to make sure they are going to be kept moist. In other words you don't want them to dry out. That's a bad thing for plants.

As for shipping, make sure you keep the plants moist or they will dry out and die. Be careful in the cold wwinter and hot summer months that your plants don't get to hot or cold with shipping
