Ok, went to a few fish shops today, went to four different places I think. First off, my girlfriend wanted to buy discus!
Although I've never kept them, I do admire them greatly. Don't know anything about them apart from they like soft water I believe, maybe not. Anyways, I asked her where she was going to put these, she said they were going in with the oscars and severum. I said no. They're too wee and I know nothing about keeping them, the oscar would eat them and besides, they weren't looking too good. A lot of gasping at the top.
Left there and went to another, she seen a tank busting with what was labelled as red tail catfish. Again, I know nothing about them. Apart from they're tank busters and we don't have the room. She enquired about these as they were pure black. The man said it was the juvi colouring. She wanted them too.
I pulled my BB out and done a search to show her the size they got. She still wanted them. I said the only way I would get one is if we had a tank big enough to house him for life. She still wanted him and to my amazement she asked how big would it need to be.
Needless to say, I couldn't answer her as I'm no expert, nor do I want to be an expert on any fish that I'd imagine would need a bigger tank than the boys 16X16ft bedroom.
We don't have the room.
She knows the size of tank an oscar needs and he doesn't grow no where near as big so I'm confused.
The reason why I'm confused is that she doesn't care about fish, that sounds harsh, its not like that but she could take or leave them. She likes livebearers and that's it. Any other fish we've got or I've shown her on the net she just rolls her eyes.
I'm not even sure if red tail cats are black when small, about 2.5 inches in length. Maybe they were mis-labelled.

horribly siphoning accident as i actually liked him. My 8 x 3 x 2 would have lasted him a while too. The Arro was anout 1-2" and is now 15-16" in a year 
which i eventually did!
I thinks that's a whole different thing to a Bala shark
