:good: Hi

i have a 180 litre tank with lots of rocks/shells in there and 4 brevis.
A couple of questions....

1 - i cannot tell the sex of the brevis as they are monomorphic - if it turns out i have 4 males, or 4 females - can i add more brevis to the tank without any problems??

2 - im thinking about adding cyps or paracyps to the tank - the tank is about 3ft 3" long. which would require the least space for swimming??

thanks

You should be able to introduce some more brevis into the tank should they all turn out to be the same sex. However, I would move the ornaments, shells, rocks around just before the new fish go in. this will break up the old territories and give the new fish more chance to establish one.

Both Cyprichromis and Paracyprichromis don't need huge amounts of space and they get to a similar size. You could put 6-10 of either type in your tank and they should be fine. It just depends on which type you prefer.

Thanks - good idea to rearrange the tank to break up territories.....

instead of paracyps or cyps - would dwarf neon rainbows be suitable???

Yep you could put 6-8 neon rainbowfish (Melanotaenia praecox) in the tank with the brevis. The rainbows might try to eat any baby brevis they see though so if you want young brevis you will have to provide plenty of hiding places for them. The rainbows also need lots of plant matter in their diet. You can feed them a vege flake or something similar.

I'd MUCH rather see you put rainbow neons in there then cyps or paracyps. I respectfully disagree that they grow to simular size.

I have kept both in a 180 and while both seemed fine, I noticed much more activity from Cyps when they are in a 4ft tank. I would suggest this as the minimum.

A group of 5-6 paracyps should be fine though in a 180, with just the one male if poss.
