Im setting up a 29 gallon sand-bottom tank...I plan to have a rock formation in the center and some plants around it, I really am interested in the shell-dweller fish. I was thinking of having a pleco in with a few of these fish, I really would like to know how many should i place in the tank and also where to stick the shells etc.

I think it would be easiest to put the shells in the sand and stack the rocks around them. You could probably do 5 ocellatus but maybe more of they Multies since they're less aggressive thyen, you could add your pleco and maybe a pair of julidochromis to take up the rocks. :D

You can keep a few pairs of N. Brevis. they only need a few shells to choose from. A colony of Multifaciatus appreciate lots of shells - you'd fit 8 or so of these little guys. Search it, there's a ton of info on these guys out there.
