If anyone's had molly babies before - HOW LONG do you think she has left?
I don't want to keep her in there longer than I have to! :good:

I think i've already seen 4 maybe even 5 posts from you asking the same thing.

Patience is a virtue.

I'm afraid i'm unable to help you, as I know nothing about Molly's, and i'm generally against the whole "balloon fish" thing. I hope you get your answers soon. FF.

Good pictures. Nothing wrong with posting lots of pics as that's what we like!

I would says she's about to drop at any time but it is more difficult to tell with the balloon mollies. It seems you're pretty excited about the fry and rightly so if they're your first. I tend to just leave the mother in the main tank these days and let nature take it's course - survival of the fittest. I've had 5 baby platy's make it to adulthood from about 6 drops. When you're dying for them to give birth and keeping a close eye on the situation it never seems to happen. Leave them to it and you're forever spotting tiny fry swimming about.

I suppose what I'm saying is that with enough plants for cover some of the babies will survive. You could end up with a lot of mollies on your hands if you use the breeding traps.

By the way, the plant in the first pic with the red edges is a non-aquatic species

Good luck and keep us updated.

Thanks!
Since buying the camera, I love good pictures!! :D

What do you mean it's non-aquatic...

Just a quick question, you got male guppies in that tank, with the mollys?

It means it cant live underwater, so you need to get it out before it goes bad and pollutes your water.

as for the balloon molly - are you intending on keeping all the fry? then raising them all? do you have the tank/filter/heater etc for that? where will you take them when theyre ready? these are all things you need to carefully think about before putting a fish into a breeding trap, which can be very stressful for them.

i'd say shes only got a few days left - personally i'd take her out and let nature take its course. its the best thing to do. balloon mollies shouldnt really be bred to be honest, as the fish does suffer. you'll find a lot of people on here with the same opinion.

whatever you decide to do, good luck.

Yep it is. I know because I once bought the same on and the green version without knowing it was non-aquatic until someone on here told me and linked me to a page with all variants on it. I'll try and find that link.

Well we did buy it from the fish centre who sold it as an 'in tank' plant! :)

In the Fish shop they were already in the same tank, and I suspect already pregnant when we bought them, I only found out 2 days ago that she COULD be pregnant, it definately wasn't our choice to breed them, they were already in the same tank so the damage was probably already done per say.
Raising them, Maybe selling some - All depends on how many actually survive.
We are getting a larger tank anyway, so all thoughts have been processed.

Thanks

Here are the links with all the different variants of it. It's widely known as one as the many non-aquatic plants sold by shops for aquariums.

So it can stay in the water?
I'm confused now :)

I had one of those and it was fine for about 4 weeks then started leaking this white glue like substance from its stem  I took mine out, on recommendation by the UKPS :good:

That doesn't sound good - The LFS gets more stock of plants tomorrow, so we'll see what's about tomorrow... :D

No, I didn't know that... Haven't had the Molly's too long and I suspect they were pregnant at purchase.

some crossbreeds look nice, from what i have seen. If i remb, it's a 28 day gestation period, someone may correct me though!

I'm sure she can't be too far off delivering now... I keep checking and it will be sods law that when I'm in bed I miss it all :( lol
