You can see the end of the bettas tail sticking out of its mouth I gave it the thumbs down, flagged it as animal abuse and left a nasty message...

What sort of idiot do you have to be to do that? Your parents must either be neglectfull with discipline and learning or you are just a ####wit. Even a fish has rights. If you want to feed it a live fish get a handfull of feeder fish.

You do know that female bettas are feeder fish aswell as livebearers and goldfish what gives them less rights then what could possibly be a male betta (although I can't sex it as you never get a really clear view)? You need to take your blinkers off, yes its cruel but its the circle of life get used to it. Fish eat meat, Fish are meat, I eat meat, therefore should I eat fish?

That's much worse.

Feeders are really abused fish and often suffer poor health and parasites as a result, this is why they are so cheap, and can be dangerous for the fish being fed.

Also, more common feeder fish, such as minnows and goldfish contain high levels of thiaminase, which breaks down vitamin D, so are bad for the health of whatever animal they are being fed.

While I think it's a crap video, and I don't like it when anyone gets a kick out of seeing another animal suffering when it's not necessary - there is much, much worse on youtube.

BTW, I have no problem with fish-eating-fish in the aquarium, and it can be interesting to watch a predator in action (though I "connect" too much with fish to do this myself purposely) - but I am totally against the sale of specific feeder fish, and I hate it when it's a really unnatural situation or the feeding is done in a way that causes the feeder fish undue suffering, such as this video. But its usually due to the attitude of the people doing it, not the act itself.

So its ok to fatten up the retarded fish keeping them in awful conditions then chuck them to the lions but save the ones which are aesthetically pleasing? Imo there is nothing wrong with what these boys did except the way that they went about it but its hardly surprising they are 14 year old boys with a video camera..... Boys are socially trained to like violence we play with actionmen, play violent videogames, fight with our peers we are mainly taught to be masculine and this training goes through to almost every aspect of life, its just how we are trained to think. Virtually every guy I know has a fascination with fire which they have played without reason sometime in there life, its not that we are all arsonist its just something about fire guys find more interesting.

The whole issue of feeder fish is down to whether or not you decide to keep fish that do require this type of feeding to sustain their health and wellbeing. Bettas are not used as feeder fish due to the fact they are far more difficult to breed than livebearers like guppies and mollies. Plus bettas dont grow as fast. The other thing is cost, people who dont breed their own feeders are highly unlikely to spend £3 on a betta, when they can get other fish at 4 for £1, and then there's the availabilty of suitable feeders. Most lfs carry huge stocks of guppies, mollies etc, but may only have a dozen or so bettas.

Its down to individual people whether they agree with keeping fish that require feeders. If its something you dont agree with then you wont keep such fish.

We keep snakes and geckos, snakes fed on frozen mice and the geckos get locusts and crickets. They have to be fed or they will die, simple.

As humans we are a funny bunch, we breed chickens, cows, pigs, etc etc...and they are feeder animals for us.

What really gets me is that some numptys like the "adolescent petulant teenager" on youtube, is that they try and turn it into entertainment believing it makes them look cool.

That's the thing, there's barely any fish that require such feeding. Most can be weaned onto dead fish, which is more convenient, much cheaper and healthier. In fact right now I cant think of any that need live.

Selling fish specifically as feeder fish is wrong, end of. Doesn't matter how you feel about the welfare of the feeder fish, it's just a concept that doesn't make sense - if you want to feed predatory fish live food, buy healthy regular fish from a pet store, and chose a suitable species.

I wouldn't have much problem with a betta being fed to a bigger fish (though wouldn't want to do it myself), if there was a reason for it - such as being overrun by betta fry, it's just a bad thing that people go out of their way to buy a healthy fish, to feed it to something that would be better off with frozen food - and then make a thing of it by posting a youtube video.
