I asked this in another thread but it may have got missed.

My Kribs have recently spawned and got fry, I have 5 x Danio and a lone Hatchet as dither fish, is it wise to remove the dither fish to stop them going for the fry or is it best to leave things as they are and let nature take it's course?

I know the Kribs are very protective and do scare off anything that comes near but I had one Danio stuck behind the filter yesterday and it was very close to where the fry were, they haven't gone there before so I was wondering if it was trying to get to them.

Also if I do/did remove the dither fish would that make the Kribs be shy again and alter the way they behave?

The parents shouldn't have a problem keeping the danios away from their fry. But taking the dithers out wouldn't hurt, as they may cause stress to the parents and/or stress the dithers. While the fry are in the tank the parents shouldn't be too shy, they will be moving the fry around the tank throughout the day. What are your plans for the fry?

Well I did remove the dithers as you may have read in another thread, the parents do move the fry around the tank still keeping guard as though there is still a threat even though they are on their own in there.

I found a shop that will give me a credit note for the fry when they are about an inch in size so that is taken care of too.

Thanks for your reply by the way.

Advice please:

I'm jumping ahead here but just in case, my Kribs as some already know have had their second batch of fry, the first batch I managed to save only 8 because they were in a community tank and they must have got eaten.
So this time I have the Kribs on their own, they have spawned again and this time have around 70 fry, at the moment the parents are still guarding them around the tank even though they have no need to, but I'm wondering will they start to spawn again while they still have fry this small, they are about 3 weeks old now and still very small?
I've made preparations for the fry if they do or is it best just to remove the male so that can't happen, though I feel that seems a bit cruel seeing as they are paired?

kribs are serial spawners, you can end up with batches 2-4 weeks apart and will all be happy together until the juvi's reach breeding size...then they will need seperating unless the tank is big enough

Blimey Mike, I didn't realise that, they are in a 100 liter tank with a few caves and rocks with little crevices, I know they are small at the moment and I have found a shop that will give me credit for them but only when they got about an inch, so with 2 lots I doubt i will have the room will I?
