Hey there!
I'm a relative newbie to the forum world but wanted to put my two cents worth in here. *smile*
I have a 20 gal. tank for my Platy's and what I've done for the little nursery is I've used a tank divider and sectioned off about 1/8-1/4 of the tank. I've gone by way of breeding traps before and had some success for a while but then they always died. I use an aqua nursery for isolating the pregnant mom. Wonderful contraption. The mother gives birth and thr fry float down through the funnel and are whisked away through a tube into a seperate compartment away from the mom. once she is done, I release her back in the main tank and empty the nusery full of fry, into the sectioned compartment. They are doing well..or so I thought. They are about a month old and still fairly small. I recently read that they need to be fed between 4-6 times per day. Well, I'm sure that was my problem as I was only feeding them 3 times. I've stepped up the feeding and have aadded tubifex to their diet, last night. They seemed to really enjoy so I'll keep adding some nightly.

where can u get dividers and how do they work

Dividers you can get at most any fish store. Or you can Make your own

They work by sectioning off part of the tank, allowing water to move through but not fish (unless they are very, very tiny...and some dividers have too small of holes for even the tiniest of fish). Very good idea for fry. :)

Hey Shady!
Sorry I didn't reply to your response, I was away and only got back a few days ago. I love the divider I have in my tank, you can get them most any tropical fish store.
I use a breeding trap first to isolate the female from the others and it's also easier to transfer the fry after they are born.

I have a question for anyone willing to answer. I had a 5-6 in. Pleco in my 40g tank. It's used to go back and forth over the partition and into the fry section of my tank. I called him Houdini. One morning he was over with the fry and the following morning he'd be back in the main tank. Over the holidays, I'm afraid to say, Houdini took himself out. He jumped out through a removed section of the hood and onto my floor. Unfortunately I was away for a week straight. My question is if anyone knows whether this is typical Pleco behaviour or was Houdini out of the norm?

Some Plecos are jumpy, but some also jump due to bad water quality. What was your's, do you know?

Sorry to hear about it though. :(
