Lady luck has struck me again!

Went to my LFS yesterday intending to buy a 2nd Juruense Catfish.
There was one in the tank that looked a little different, so I got it hoping it might grow to be an awesome pattern or something.

Got it home, and was quite clearly not a Juruense. I had a pretty good idea what I thought it looked like, but thought I would confirm it from the guys at a well known catfish forum.

Yay! I got me a Brachyplatysoma Tigrinum!!! (Zebra Shovelnose)

Only a little 2.5" baby right now so the black and white stripes are not out yet.
But I will update this thread as it does.

Here is a little pic: (2 mins after introducing to the tank)

very good purchase

Great looking catfish!

Just been reading a profile (http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=354) and the things that jump out are...
  • This fish has another ~44cm of growing to do (should reach ~50cm SL)!
  • Apparently needs "massive current and high oxygen levels "

I would love to a see a video clip of the tank setup (guess its going to be similar to what I have in my bigger tanks), which this fish and any other tankmates in action.

Yup, they need massive current.
The grow out it is in right now has Ok current.it is a 50gal with 3 P.Bass babies.
The next stage will be from this grow out to the Bichir growout which is 4x2x2. Will stay in there for quite a while till he is big enough to be com'd with the Arowana/ giant Endlicheri and PO.Bichir Bichir in my monster tank which has mahasoooove filtration and huge current going from mid tank to bottom.

Eventually it's tankmates will be 2.5ft Black Arowana, 54cm Polypterus Endlicheri, 35cm Polypterus Bichir Bichir, and a whole bunch of other Monster Bichirs that are also growing out right now.

Here is my Aro he will go with:

And here is my P. Bichir Bichir (Lake Turkana Variant), one of the rarest fish you will see on these forums:

Thanks mate.

Unfortunately though from what I can gather, Zebras are real slow growers!

But I'm in no rush, so I guess all is good.
