here's a crappy photo..know it's not that good, and I know about the algae in this tank..it's not mine, so I don't need any lectures, hehe. Just want to know what you think about the sex of this gourami..and I will try to get a better picture tomorrow!

second picture at the bottom!

The photo looks fine to me , can see plenty .

Looks like a female to me . Has it been around a while ?

So there's algae , big deal .

Just because there's algae that by no means makes it an unhealthy tank , it's making use of nutrients .

Sorry ; reverse lecture

I don't think algae bothers fish very much . ;)

I think it looks like a female as well but a picture from the side would make it easier to identify as the shape of all the fins would be more evident.

I also think algae is ok for fish. Some even preffer it as it's more natural for them :D

True  , I was going by the color , or lack of it , it could be a young male , that's why I asked if it had been around a while .

Jazz sorry to hijack your thread.

How do you tell the sex?

Can you tell what sex this one of mine is?

We have two and they are always intertwined in a spin rubbing each other! - one is a bit bigger than the other. I was presuming we had one boy and one girl.

Cheers

The dwarf still looks female :p

Unfortunately I can't sex the kissing gourami as they show no real differences other than the female being deeper-bodied when she is full of eggs and ready to spawn. From that angle it would be difficult to tell even if it was a female ready to rbeed. Size is not a reliable way to decide either as one may simply be more mature than the other. Your best bet would be to compare the two and see if they maybe breed.

Nice pics BTW - both of them. :)

Sylvia,

They do look very similar although the larger one is very dominant over the smaller one and whenever it comes out it is usually chased back into hiding.

Thanks Mandi! :)

If you see one chasing the other it could well be a male and female but there is still no way to be certain - other than if they breed. :)
