How old do Platys have to be to be able to sex them??

They can usually be sexed after 4-12 weeks although some males can be late to mature.

i have a platy fry just over a month old i could tell it was a girl when the fry was only a couple of week old, you have to have a good eye.

dont forget the males anal fin is very long looks a bit like a sword and the females is round like a normal side fin

The hazard of using that method at 2 weeks old, Naomi, is that all platies look like females at that age. The gonopodium, the distictive male sex organ, does not develop until later. I have answered many a post by people who thought their entire drop of insert livebearer name here was female and were worried that they would get no males. Most often they were embarrassed a short while later when their males started showing the distinctive gonopodium shape.

Variatus platies you can sex early. but ye their no fixed rules to it, i've seen some go past 6 months and then mature into males
