 How can you sex Endlers please? You see Guppies sold seperately in IFs, but Endlers are just sold as, I have three at the moment and have had them for around 2 years-just realised that they must be OAP's now! I would like to get some more now I have a bigger tank, but want to make sure that I'm not overrun LOL.
My current three are great characters, and seem to have thrived despite my low pH (6.4).
They have been living in a Bioorb, so no room for them to jump out, but their soon to be new tank has a gap at the back, I shall fill that in forthwhith to avoid them leaping out! (although they are probably past that stage in their lives!!
Thanks

Posted in wrong section and not seen. Bumping back to top.

male endlers are the small tiny ones with lots of colour, and the females pretty much look like female guppys!

Males are very brightly coloured, with varying patterns of orange, black, green and blue. Females are slightly larger and broader than males, and are pale green in colour. Aside from coloration, sex can also be determined by the presence of the gonopodium organ. Mature females also have a dark gravid spot near their vent.
Juvenile males develop their gonopodium often before their coloring develops.

hopr this helps

A male endler will have a gonopodium, as already mentioned. The gonopodium is the long thin looking fin that is near where the fish eliminates waste. On a female it would be a simple triangular shape instead. The colorful ones in this pictures are a few of my males. The plain ones are females and fry. If you look at the anal fin on the male at the bottom right, the shape is obvious although he is a bit out of focus. If you look at the female just right of center, her fin shape is also obvious, I think she was the in-focus thing in the picture although the male at top center shows his color better than the rest. I had just fed some flake so you can see bits of it in the picture.

A female true endler will have no color markings at all on fins or tail.

:thanks: everyone, that is very helpful, particulary the explanation about the gonopodium-a word I've heard but dared not ask about! LOL, you have some beautiful fish there Oldman, they are such characters, I understand that getting true Endlers is a bit hit or miss as many are Guppy hybrids, have done a bit of research into mine and think I have Endlers, although I'm now dissappointed that I don't have a female :hey:
Will have to search for a breeder now!
Thank you so much for your help guys
