You know what it's like you bizzy doing something and al of a sudden a strange thought pops into your head.
What about sex edd for fishes, i was talking to Steve Punchard and the lad he has looking after his discus for him, and we were talking about getting a pair and breeding discus.

I,d been telling them how i'd finally got a pair and how it turned out to be the unlikely jaffa that's more into food than sex.
And he said some times it takes longer for tank bread fish to hit the mark when it comes to breeding as they have no one to learn from as they are taken out and put into a separate tank as soon as they are old enough.

I have two young pairs in my main tank where my old pair have spawned and they seam to be pretty successful in raising them so far.
I was wondering if this seeing this would be like sex edd for the younger pairs, ready for when they spawn. :fun:

I'm not real knowledgable about discus but I do know they need pristeen water conditions. It may be that the water conditions aren't where they need to be for breeding purposes.

I have read that this can be a problem for certain types of fish that rear their own fry; looking after fry does seem to be partly learnt behaviour at least in some species; so if they've been taken from their parents they may never have learnt. Same as zoo-reared gorillas holding their babies upside down. Or yes, we could find parallels in the human world.
Obviously it doesn't take a vast amount of skill to be a guppy mother- if it looks good you eat it!

Quite often, when a species of fish looks like it should spawn but just won't, the reason is because they are not yet physically mature. There is a period of time when they are getting big and looking good, but until they are completely mature, it just can't happen.
