i currently have the red spotted severum in my avatar and i would love to add a gold. would this be wise? other cichlids in the tank are a wild blue acara (male) 2 kribs ( m/f pair) 2 angels

yep thats right 100 uk gal 4x2x2 volume worked out using calculator on this forum

I would say hit and miss, especially if they are both males.

I had two severums and had to rehouse one, the bullying was just too much. If they are both young it has a greater chance of success.

my red is quite young had him about 2 months now and he was about 3" when i bought him altho he is growing quite quickly

mine has grown i have had him for about 2 weeks iv noticed mine bullys teh blue acara weather he wants some nookie or not i dont know

mines the exact opposite he bows down to the acara even tho he is much bigger than it

If you do try to introduce another heros severum, the best way to do it is buy at least 6. This way you can "pair up" the fish so to speak. This process is ussually done to find breeding pairs but can also be used to find/solve compatability issues. I have personally found severums to be very finiky about tank mates. They can be very aggresive. Hope this helped :good:

sevs can be aggressive if they find that they can bully other smaller cichlids but put them in a tank with a similar sized cichlid then you shouldnt see any aggression

I agree with Shroob, there is no definite answer to this regardless of the tanksize, - It may work, it may not
If you do add another I would personally get one a inch or so bigger than your current Sev, IME They tend to be less inclined to take on a bigger fish.

hmm interesting points well i think that as i am not kitted up to seperate to another tank if there are issues and the new fish wont be coming from an lfs ( looking to do a swap for my 3 clown loaches) has anybody got any alternative suggestions? current stock the sev 1 blue acara 2 kribs 2 angels 6 bosemaini rainbows ( may keep may not) 3 pearl gouramis and a plec ( again may not keep not sure yet )

I think a Festivum would go quite nicely with your current stock, I have always seen them as a mix between a Sev and an Angel.
or maybe a couple of Geophagus Sp.

If you did want to try another sev, without causing issues, you could try, taking out the current sev, re-arranging the tank, then introduce them at the same time, that way the sev that was in there has to find new territory at the same time as the new one. Its always going to be dependent on the actual fish as to their temprement, the one you have now seems fairly placid, that doesnt mean that another will be the same.

Geo species are nice and shouldnt cause a problem with the stocking you have.

mu current sev is really placid he doesnt really have what he claims as a territory he just kinda mooches around the whole tank. not sure if i like festivums or not maybe i just havent seen a good one . will look into geo species what are some examples please?
