ok here gos lol errrrm how fast do they grow. whats the best food for good growth colour etc have read that you can give them things like earthworms and crickets is it advisable to wait til the fish is a certain size before doing this? also anybody that has the red severum as in my avatar how much did you pay for yours and roughly what size was it at purchase?

thankjs

oh and if i was to be able to find a gold would the 2 mix ?

Hello,

I paid £17.50 for a small regular severum 3 years ago. They grow pretty quickly and he should be fully grown within a year or so. Earthworms are a very good treat and mine relished them, however don't get them from a compost bin as some people claim that they contain toxins, I've never tried it but I would follow this advice to be on the safe side.

my red was £17.95 got him about 2 weeks ago and he is around 3.5 to 4 inches . do you give him the worms whole or chopped up?

I would chop them as they can tend to wiggle out from gill slats, depends how much of a ganet yours is as to whether the worm has the chance to escape and also sevs mouths when young are not that big.

I haven't got him anymore (I gave him to a friend and he's still very healthy). I chopped the worms up and fed them twice a week.

feed them prawns, it will really color them up pretty well. Sevs aren't the fastest growers but they arent super slow.

i have always did raw. You can also use krill which does alot of colorboosting as well, and along with prawns and krill you will definitely need to get some vegitation from them to munch on, just go to your lfs and pick up a cheap lot of elodea (probably about 3 bunches) and that should last them for a few weeks.

as for your question about your pricing I paid:
$4.75/each for rotkeils
$5.00/each for turqoise
$5.00/each for gold sevs

my gold Sev cost £5.00 from work (turquiose Sevs are £5.75) sizes range from 2-4".

I also feed raw prawns, as well as a mixture of bloodworm/shrimp/squid/mussel pellets,
Also get them on some veggies, mine has a few peas a couple of times per week

thanks i will get him some prawns. hes done a right demolition job on my elodea densa he also likes lettuice too. i also give him froze cichlid diet which has a bit of veg in it and my lfs do froze "green food" gonna try him with some of that too

your going to spend a crap load on frozen foods. i wouldnt try to colorboost feed just now as they are juvies. wait until they are about 6" then start colorboost feeding. but still feed vegetation like elodea and other cheap live plants for your sevs to munch on in between feedings and always feed a staple pellet 1-2 times daily. now of course you will always need to throw in a surprise of frozen foods. but like i said, at around 6" i would start to colorboost feed them daily with prawns and krill and other frozen foods, but stay away from beefheart.
