This isn't my first tank, I just want to see if I could get new ideas for how I want to attack this 20 gal. for my room

A nice sandy bottom and then lots of live plants and rocks... realy depends what fish you want, some prefer an open tank to swim around and some are shy and prefere a lot of cover to hide in...

What are the dimensions of the tank, is your water hard or soft and from how far away will you mostly be viewing the tank?

My water is hard. I don't know the dimensions but its just your basic 20 gal. I think since everything in my room is black I might make it a black and white.... Go with some black and white angels and maybe some albino fish as well with white gravel and some black decoration

There's a couple of issues with your plan, although it does sound eyecatching.

A 20g is a bit small for angels, tbh. And white gravel tends not to stay white for long. Because it reflects light, it tends to get a very good algae growth on it, very rapidly! I would go with a black substrate.

As your water is quite hard, black and white or dalmation mollies might be a good choice.

Thank you for you input. I certainly don't want to be cleaning my gravel more than needed lol...

definitely stay away from white gravel, it's soooooo hard to keep clean! i'd say either black sand with some albino cories or black round edged gravel.

It might not be to everyone's taste, but I think I would do black gravel (a fine one) with some of those white ruins and silver and black mollies. I'm sure I've seen white plastic plants. You'd probably need to take them out and wash them under hot water every so often, but they'd be easier than white gravel, I think.

Black sand and albino cories would be nice, if you can find black sand.
