I've just been to Wildwoods in Enfield, and am very impressed. They've got some nice apisto's there, and I've spoken to the bloke on ebay - between the two, when I do start adding them I should have a pretty diverse choice. Some nice agazzi's and some gorgeous cacatuoides. And without a doubt, some of the best looking dwarf gourami's I've seen - I'll be going back there to get one for my 65L community tank in the next week or so hopefully.

(I've settled on the idea of an apisto tank in case you can't tell for the 3 ft tank- thanks for the idea Mel.)

Are there any plec's that would fit in this tank? I fancy a couple of small ones to keep all areas interesting, and maybe something else that'd get along with the apisto's. To be arranged though.

And another question, for a 3ft x 1ft x 1ft tank - would 15kg of play sand be enough?

15kg of sand - how many bags is that? Because in my 4ft I only used less than 2 bags and that is 2" deep.

As for plecs, there is a list on the plecs forum here of those who reach under 8" and the dwarf species because remember apistos like very clean water and plecs are messy buggers so choose wisely.

Did you see the red-finned honey dwarf gouramis at Wildwoods?

No, I spent about 5 minutes in the shop before my missus dragged me out - we had to be somewhere else. I'll have a nosy at the plec's, maybe just get one. At the moment I do alternate 15% and 30% on my main tank every 3 days, and am happy to do the same with this one. And I'll be putting in something like an EX700 so it should be well filtered.

I'm waiting on a cheque coming through from Virgin Media (buggers overcharged me) and when that comes through I'm going to go down there, pick out a dwarf but more importantly have a proper nosy about.

**Edit: 1 bag I think, its this:

For the price, I don't mind getting two.
